All of our products are handmade in our shop.
We use locally sourced ingredients, supporting our local farmers, butchers and greengrocers is very important to a local community, which we are very much a part of here in Camelford.
I was born in Camelford, so a proper Cornish Maid, leaving for a while to live in Lancashire, but decided my heart was most definately here, in Cornwall.
As my three children were all now in school, I needed a job where I could still take them to school and be there for them as much as possible.
Not having much in way of qualifications, I was limited in job offers, so I thought what can I do... what am I good at?
That's when the idea of Cornish Maids came to me....I can make a good pasty, my mum taught me, and my grandmother taught her, so why not try and make a living and carry on our family tradition.
A shop became available in Camelford, formerly a clothes shop, and I signed the lease. Totally refurbishing it to be suitable for catering.
It was a lot harder than I thought it would be, lots of preparation and long hours, sometimes falling asleep whilst eating my dinner! I am very proud of my achievements.
Three years on, I was offered the opportunity to buy the property, and nervously, I decided to go for it.
Now, 20 years on, I am still loving my job, enjoying each and every day, working with my cousin, Linda and our Saturday boy David... having lots of laughs along the way (you have to be able to do that!).
